Part 2 - how to dress your greyhound: the "feet first" method

If there’s one thing we’ve learned from the greyhound community, it’s this - there’s never just one way to do things.

While our original guide walks you through the head first method, some greyhounds feel more comfortable easing into their clothes a little differently. That’s where the feet first method comes in.

For dogs who aren’t fans of things going over their head (especially if they’re new to wearing clothes), this approach can feel calmer and more controlled.

We’ve paired this guide with a video so you can see exactly how it works in real time.

Step 1: Start with the legs

If your jumper has sleeves, begin by gently rolling them up - this makes it easier to guide your dog’s legs through without any resistance.

Take one front leg and softly guide it into the armhole. Keep things slow and relaxed.

Step 2: Repeat on the other side

Roll up the second sleeve and guide the other front leg through.

At this point, the jumper will be sitting loosely at the front of your dog’s body.

Step 3: Pull the jumper up

Once both legs are in, gently pull the jumper up along your dog’s chest and shoulders as far as it comfortably goes.

Step 4: Finish over the head

When your dog is relaxed, carefully bring the neck opening up and over their head to finish.

Important: If your dog is uncomfortable with this step or doesn’t like lowering their head, don’t force it. Every greyhound is different, and their comfort always comes first.

Finding what works for your hound

Some dogs prefer head first. Others prefer feet first. Many are happy with either once they get used to it.

The key is to follow your dog’s lead.

Keep the experience positive, go at their pace, and don’t be afraid to try different approaches until you find what feels easiest for both of you.
